The Art is HERE!

This past week and weekend I saw art, watched art being made, found out where it comes from, and made some of my own! It all started Thursday when i stayed the in art studio printing from 1:00 to 6:00 because i just could not stop! I was totally immersed in what i was doing; nothing was going to stop me from finishing my first print right then and there. And i did! Let me introduce you to my first Silk Screen print on textile:

Tahh Dahh! This is my first print. I am working on a bigger piece now. And this picture to the right is an action shot, that i had to show you: one because i look deep in concentration (hence the no stopping me) and second because my hair is huge! It was really humid that day and my hair was all over the place; i thought you all might get a kick out of it :)

Friday was a class trip to Vinci, Carrara and one more town that started with a 'P' but i cannot remember how to say it. Vinci is a tiny little town where the house that Leonardo da Vinci was supposedly born in is: although the professor who took us has proven this theory wrong, so really we went to a house that is 'not' where Leonardo was born. This professor is a odd and brilliant character! We then went to the town that starts with a 'P' to watch bronze sculptures being created. The entire process is rather confusing but i think i got it in the end. The bronze factories are accutally very secret family businesses, so we were lucky and got a very rare inside tour! Carrara was the last town on our list and is where Michelangelo got the marble to create the David (my professor has not proven this theory wrong yet). We literally went inside the worlds largest marble mine: 600 meters into the center of the mountain!

The trip was a lot of fun, tiring but fun! In this picture the white on the mountain is Not snow it is all marble, crazy huh?!

Saturday was a trip to Revenna! We visited a bunch of churches, baptisteries, and tombs. This trip was the first time since being in Italy where i have walked into a church and my mouth fell open: it was also the first time i have walked into one of the churches, so i was not surprised how amazed i was at the art inside. We saw some of my favorite mosaic pieces ever! They were all absolutely amazing! The pictures do not do these marvelous pieces justice, but i hope my love and enthusiasm for them helps you appreciate them more :) There are stories behind each one that i could write pages on, but for you (the readers) sake i won't Haha. I have a tons of post cards and pictures that i will show you all when i get back :)

This tomb is home to my most favorite mosaic of all! We only got to stand in there for about 5 minutes because it is so small, and the pictures did not come out, but i bought plenty of postcards of it :)

I love this last piece a lot as well because the lady depicted has a 'you go girl' life story. Haha you got to love the 'We Can Do It' women of the past :)

So art was all over this past weekend for me. I hope it was for all of you too!

With Love!

You are my "Girl, you're doing it now." I did get a feel for the art you've been exposed to and I will now go forward with my day here and admire art all around me. You're so inspiring!
You'd better be coming home with some of your silkscreen fabric for me to make a quilt with or I won't let you back in the house! love Mom
